blokart Spring Break – 2007
Spring Break and blokart action went hand in hand during the past two weeks. The fun began in Long Beach, Ca. on March 30th with the first day of the Western Regional Championships and Rally and continued through the weekend.
We had seventeen competitors racing in four divisions, Junior Production, Junior Performance, Production, and Performance. There were 22 races completed over two days. The Pearson Clan (party of five) from Washington State deserves an enthusiasm award for all of the “comebacks”. Sisters Kristen, Megan, and Sam competed in the Junior Production division, while Mom (Debbie) and Dad (John) faced off in Production. Smiles and good time abounded.
The winds cooperated each day to create some very interesting circuits. One capsize, blown tires, and a couple of miscues at the start line added to the challenge. When the sand settled, the top honors went to:
- Kristyn Pearson (WA) – Junior Production
- Ben Tolan (CA) - Junior Performance
- Patrick Goodman (CA) - Production
- Mike Moody (MI) – Performance
Special thanks to Kimarie Vestre from the Department of Marinas and Beaches for all of her help during the event. The City of Long Beach was our title sponsor this year and their support is greatly appreciated.
Monday was travel day with most of the group headed to Ivanpah Dry Lake at the Nevada state line for some more exciting blokart sailing.
Monday was also cleanup day in Long Beach in preparation for a film shoot by MTV on Tuesday for a television dating show called “Parental Control”. The airing date will be posted as soon as it is scheduled.
In Ivanpah we joined up with the kite buggy activities sponsored by NABX. The venue was very organized and the blokart family was well received. We sailed each day in moderate afternoon breezes and enjoyed lots of low key banter while waiting for the wind to fill in. Dean Kitchen from Michigan entertained us with his library of jokes and we were all in stitches at one time or another while enjoying each others company.
The sailing at Ivanpah is a stark contrast to the tight, close racing experienced in Long Beach. Wide open space and long runs are the norm. A great chance to have a bit of each during the week.
Bill Price and Jason Robbins pooled together to create a video show of blokart racing on the playa, that was watched on laptop from the back of the CAR trailer on Friday. Look for more blokart video soon.
Yep, it was one great spring break…………………………
