Race blokarts Ready to Set Sail
During
the Volvo Ocean Race at the Baltimore Waterfront Festival
One
of the many exciting activities on tap during the Volvo Ocean Race
at the Baltimore Waterfront Festival will be the opportunity for
the public to try their hand at sailing a Volvo blokart. A small
landyacht pushed along by only the wind, the Volvo blokart is easy
to sail. blokart sailing is fun and exciting for people of all ages.
No previous sailing experience is needed and helpful staff will
get you started.
Members
and supporters of the University of Maryland Baltimore Campus Sailing
Team will assist in running the sailing site. Rick Dunn, team president
says, “We welcome the opportunity to support Volvo in this
way. The crews of the VOR race boats are at the pinnacle of talent
in the sailing world, something that many collegiate sailors aspire
to become. To be able to share a bit of the sport of sailing with
everyone at the festival in this way is exciting” Volunteers
from the sailing team will be on hand to show participants how to
sail the blokart and ensure a fantastic time.
Sailing
will take place daily from April 27th through May 4th from 11AM
to 6PM. The sailing site is located at Harbor Point (South Caroline
and Thames). Compliments of the Volvo Ocean Race and Ocean Race
Chesapeake, there is no charge.
